We regularly bring young Irish sports horses into the yard for backing and schooling through to competition standard and if we can keep them 'cooler' during the process it makes our work that much easier!
Last winter I was one of the people who tried Rockies new "Magnacalm" lick. I'd heard it had been university tested and reported at an international horse health congress in Holland, so I was hoping it would be right for our job.
The combination of dextrose with pure salt makes the licks palatable and quickly gets the calming magnesium effect into the horse's system on a drip-feed basis. I was certainly very please with the results it achieved with our horses and I have continued to use the product. A bonus is the free access lick leaves us one less job to do!
A more relaxed horse learns quicker and we are getting better, faster responses with reduced stress to the horse which is transmitted to the handler.
Most of our horses go on from here in South Wales to keen competitive owners around the country. Keeping them as stress-free as possible when they're with us can only help in future careers!
